Home Based Business Opportunities: From the Eyes of A Newbie

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Tired of even the thought of having to commute to work? Frustrated of having to spend all your hard earned money on fares and fuel costs? Fed up with wasted precious time on the road? I have some good news for you. The idea of home based business opportunities is not a myth. In this article, I will be discussing my two cents worth regarding home based business opportunities and how they can be a realistic alternative to conventional businesses.

Now, while some of you might be wondering: Who ever said home based business opportunities were a myth? Well, unknown to many of you, Netizens, there are still quite a number of thinking living organisms in the planet who perceive the Web as just a medium for email, surfing, chatting, or worse, downloading pirated videos and adult content. And then there are those who find it hard to imagine that one can earn a decent, constant living outside the four corners of their workplace.

First, how is this possible? Well, perhaps you can think of it this way. In the olden days, the best place to do business was in the marketplace. Why? Proximity. Everybody who wanted to buy and sell bought and sold there. The idea was to bring the goods to a common place. Now, the marketplace concept still exists. The only difference, I know… it’s one hell of a difference, is that this marketplace is virtual. The goods don’t have to be physically brought to the market. There are limitations to this arrangement. One can only use two senses to examine a product: the sense of sight and the sense of hearing. That’s the best that technology on multimedia can offer us right now. But right now, it seems that’s all it takes to complete a transaction that’s satisfactory to both sides.

So how can this arrangement be beneficial to both sides? For both the buyer and the seller, you have a bigger market out there. You’re talking about every human being with an Internet connection. Consider this: a Filipino seller on Ebay (see http://www.ebay.com) wants to sell a 1910 Philippine coin. About this period, the Philippines would have been a colony of the United States. Most probably, you wouldn’t only have Filipinos as interested buyers of the same coin, but Americans as well. Now, without the Web, that same coin wouldn’t be as easily visible to both Americans and Filipinos… or any other interested coin collector for that matter. Let’s now go into the point of view of the buyer. Let’s say you’re an eccentric alumnus of Silliman Univerisity, in the Philippines, and you’ve heard that there’s such a metal as sillimanite. Unfortunately, sillimanite cannot be found in the Philippines. They’re mostly found in Delaware, USA. Therefore, this metal, while easily accessible to inhabitants of Delaware, is not of interest to residents of the place but of interest to some people in the Philippines. The easiest place to consummate a transaction of the said metal would be in the Web. The World Wide Web simply broadens, to a much larger extent, the scope of the market place. If the probability of successfully trading a particular item in your possession in your community is nil, this could improve if your market were much much wider.

This is just one typical example of a home based business opportunity; that of having goods to sell and buy. There are still a lot more home based business opportunities out there. We have yet to tackle services that can be offered through the web. But this will have to wait ‘til the next article.

However, if you can’t wait for that next article, I highly recommend http://www.homebasedbusinessbooks.com/

It has some very informative ebooks regarding the topic.
